Hi all! My Silver Lace Wyandotte was the first to start laying a couple weeks ago. She goes in the box, does her thing, maybe sings the egg song, maybe not. No big deal. My Ameraucanas do the I-gotta-lay-right-now screech for what seems to be hours. Miley started laying with my SLW and her singing has gotten shorter. Both Ameraucanas get in the box, lay on their sides, and kick the straw all around them. Then move to another box. They aren't happy until all the boxes have been rolled around in, and then they head back to their favorite box to lay. They crack me up. The other pullets run in and check on them and look at them and sing to them as if to say, "Get on with it, will ya? Yeesh!" I find it all pretty hilarious. My question is, though, is it normal for the chicken to just lay there looking stunned like, "What the heck just happened?" for a while after laying? They're new to it, so I can't tell if it's got them freaked out or if they're just serious about being drama queens. I had to steal Dolly's egg and then I picked her up out of the nest for a cuddle before she went on her merry way.
