When I recieved this co kerell @7wks old, I was told he had Ameraucana father xBA mother.
I was also told that his female offspring would lay blue eggs.
Does that mean All his offspring will lay Only blue eggs? That doesnt sound likely, but I am confused.if he is my only rooater, that means that i would have. NO brown eggs in a generation ? I have Australorp and RIR pullets.
I' not looking for all EE flock.
Does that mean i must have another roo?
Thanks

I don't think that is correct information you were given.
It really depends on what he is bred to, he could be a blue egg gene carrier but being out of a Black Austalorp hen, he's only have a 50/50 chance of inheriting that gene.

Thank you.
I wonder what i could read for a basic understanding of genetics.
Aparrently some traits are passed from only one parent, othees both, others either(?)
Any recomendations?
And if this roo Is a bue gene carrier? How would that effect his offspring's egg color? Theyd be out pf brown egg laying hens.

If he does carry the blue egg gene then there is a possiblity of some inheriting the blue gene and some the brown gene.

I'm hoping someone else will chime in here that knows a little more about it. A lot of mine is just from breeding mixes together and see what the outcome is. I don't understand the genetics too much myself.
