I read in an article true Ameraucanas male or female have 4 toes. If not, then you have an EE chicken. Does anyone have a picture of an Ameraucana with 4 toes? I'm trying to find out if I have EE's or Ameraucanas.

Thank you,

The vast majority of chickens have 4 toes. 5 toed breeds are the silkies, Faverolles, Dorkings, Houdans and Sultans. So, in your case, counting toes is not going to help.

If you post a picture, we can id your bird for you.

An easy way to tell the difference is where the bird came from and how much you paid for it. If it came from a hatchery, it's an Easter egger. The sole exception is Meyer hatchery, they have blue Ameraucana and they cost about ten times what an EE costs.

If you bought the bird from a breeder, they should have been able to tell you the color of the bird if it's a true Ameraucana.

Good rule of thumb is.....if you have to ask, you have an Easter egger.
