Amercaucana roo x barred rock hen

Anyone on here ever crossed a purebred(not hatchery mixed Easter egger)Ameraucana rooster with a Plymouth barred rock hen?

I have heard that as long as the roo is not white that this cross would be a sex link.

What about the egg color would this cross mostly likely lay blue or green eggs?

How about Amerucana roo crossed with Cuckoo Maran hen would that be a sex link that lays a darker green or just blue?

The offspring will be black sex-links, yes. Cockerels will be identifiable at hatch by a white dot on their heads and will display barring as they mature.

Egg colour genetics are difficult to predict, however if the cockerel is pure for blue, all his offspring will lay blue/green. The amount of pigment coating on top of the shell (which is what makes white eggs brown and blue eggs green) varies depending on which genes the offspring get; there are several genes regarding pigment coating and not all of them are fully understood. Regardless, you ought to get at least a light green from your barred rock crosses, with a darker olive from your Marans, though again, this depends on what genes are inherited. I have several Araucana x RSL who lay various shades, some fairly dark khaki; none lay blue.

Why don't the big hatcheries make this cross and sell the chicks as a easter egger black sex link?

Though I am not from the US, so unsure of what hatcheries sell and breed, I believe they do a similar cross using Cream Legbar and Marans. In this situation, the Cream Legbar must be the female parent, as they are the ones who need to possess the barring to pass onto their sons.

They sell olive eggers but I don't know if they are sex linked olive eggers.

Here in the U.S. I have never seen cream legbars for sale at my local feed store. I have only seen those for sale by local breeders. I have never seen any kind of Easter egger black sex link for sale by the big hatcheries.
It seems like a simple, easy idea.
Maybe I should send them a suggestion.
