I have two Americana/EE hens that I have been with me about a year now. They have always and with out fail laid identical pail blue eggs. But starting yesterday I have been getting smaller green/Brown (dark brown not tan) eggs. They are the only two in the flock who lay colors eggs. Everyone else lays tan or pail Brown eggs. I started feeding fruit and veg more often as a way to help them stay cool but they usually free range a few days a week? Could.what they eat affect the color of the eggs so profoundly. I know from reading a few other thred that color change isn't unusual but it seems the trend is to lighten in color not darken

That is strange.

I guess anything can happen with birds. It could be the fruit, it could just be as they age or as it gets nearer the end of the laying season (I think I heard that eggs get darker near the end of the laying season). I also heard somewhere some diseases cause it.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!

I was talking with my mom this morning and I said "I don't have any Americana crosses... " and realized I in fact do. She looks just like a sex link and is at the right age to start laying. I am so forgetful!
