Is there anyway to autosex this breed now a days?
I’ve just purchased 4 new chicks my kids and I didn’t get to pick which ones we wanted he just took a net and scooped them up. My last experience with baby chicks was I hatched crested cream legbar couple and they were auto sex. One male which had a dot on his head and one female which if I remember right she looked more like a chip munk but most Importantly no dot on her head! I have them now she is laying and he is fertilizing so I know for sure the auto sex was correct in their case. Now these 4 ameruacana (sp?) three of them have dots on their heads just one small dot. Is that an indication of anything? Do some people breed to autosex these?
The Craigslist Add described them as
“These Wheatens are pure bred Holcombe, Smith, and Blehm bloodline quality blue egg laying Ameraucanas”
One of them is extremely yellow than the rest and is the only one with no dot on (her) head. the one my 13 yr old bought on his own has a dot on head and some black spotting through out the body and the other two look about the same beigh a little darker on back and a little black in the tips of wings with tiny dots on their heads. except one is a bit bigger than the other. I’ve looked all over the net and I see it’s said there’s no way to auto sex these breeds but nothing is updated info for 2018 and the bloodlines he mentioned makes me wonder if they did some kind of auto sexing. I’ve hatched a few batches and have 7 chickens but I’m not that experienced. He said to have a 75% hen ratio but it looks like the opposite between the wing feathers and the dot on the head i haven’t even examined the combs yet since they’re still young. I drove a total of around 3 hours round trip for them so I’m hoping for at least a couple hens I’m hoping the Internet is right and all my past experience to tell the difference between male and female is no help with this breed because otherwise it looks like I’m looking at 3 - 4 roos
Any opinions or reassurance? Thanks!!
