Hi, I have a duck that was prescribed Amoxicillin, but neither me or my wife can get the syringe in her mouth to get her to take any of it. I was wondering if I were to mix it with a little food would it have the same affect?

Will she eat all of the food right away? If not, it will now be as effective.

Do these pictures help?

It is 3 ml of amoxicillin every 12 hours. She would eat all the food immediately. We were just thinking if we could sprinkle a little food in it so she can take it from a shallow bowl

If she will eat all the food right away then that's okay.

I had good success placing the syringe up against the corner of my girls’ bills at the crease where the bill meets the feathers and giving a couple of drops at a time while I held them each against my body with my left arm, tucked under my elbow, kind of like a football. I did it on the bathroom counter where the mirror helped my see both sides and I could pick the easier one at the moment. The reason I gave a little at a time was to avoid having it get into their windpipe, which is the center “hole” you see in the example pictures. The liquid should run in the crevasse on the side of the throat. My ducks had injuries to their faces and bills, so I didn’t want to stress those by forcing their bills open. Even with their bills closed, the medicine went in at the corner through the little gap. The bill is more flexible in that corner.
