An animal ordinance in Wake Forest

I'm keeping a tab on all the goings-on here in Wake Forest on my website. Shame about what happened in Cary last week. I think it should have been formally introduced. Emily Cole is doing that here and has already started contacting commissioners on the subject. Fortunately for us, our commissioners seem to be a little more progressive than the Caryites.

Uh - yeah, that's me with the flat hair and tie-dye shirt! Wake Forest's story will be in the Raleigh News and Observer on Friday the 8th of August... I hope it is a positive story for us!

We're really doing a lot to try to educate the people in this town, and I will be giving a packet of information to the Board of Commissioners before the meeting on the 19th so they will be well informed before they make their decision. I spoke with the town clerk today about being on the agenda. She was a little wishy-washy, but I'm not too worried about her - she's not one of the Commissioners!

Ok everyone - here's an update on the Wake Forest Saga!!! The Wake Weekly has talked with the Mayor and Town Manager, and done another article today! Apparently the Mayor seems intrigued by the idea, and has made some comments which lead me to believe she's open to it. BUT - Since it is an ordianance change, they are required to have a public hearing on the subject, and I have no idea when that will be. The issue is on the agenda for the commissioners meeting on Tuesday, August 19, at 7pm, and I had been told I would have 5 minutes to do a presentation. I have been working on it all week... and practicing with my 'speaking voice'. I still haven't seen the agenda for the meeting - so I called Town Hall today to inquire about it. I spoke with the Town Clerk, who informed me that the issue is item 70? or maybe 17? Yikes! And I will not be speaking on the issue after all... the commissioners will discuss it though, and decide about having a public hearing. The Town Clerk did recomend that I be there (duh) in case they want to ask me any questions. I've already (last night - before learning all of this) sent out an email asking for local supporters to come to the meeting to show their support... I hope they won't be mad if I'm not speaking! ARGGGG!

Em,
I'm sending out a prayer that it passes.

Hang in there!! I also read on the website that one of your neighbors sent an anonymous letter about manure concerns. What are you doing to try to change their minds? (hope you don't mind me asking) All but one neighbor are Supporting me. Seems the main concern is Avian flu, not so much anything else. I am getting a letter from the State Vet. about the Avian Flu to quell any fears.
The town clerk is highly suspicious about why I want to look through all 4( yes, 4) ordinance books. She keeps pumping me for details about why I want the ordinances on zoning ,livestock, and pets. I told her it was for a unit study on local government for home school. It will be....when I line up all five kids at the board meeting. It's going to be hard to say no to a two year old in pigtails.(priceless)

stacym, I have been doing a lot of education online and face-to-face. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunatly, many of the folks who are so negative don't want to talk about the issue. They are just set in their ways and don't wish to be educated. I'm guessing they're also too 'chicken' to come out to a public hearing on the issue - which is what looks like is going to be the case.

Have you looked online at municode.com for your ordinances? I think most of them are on there, and it would save you some funny looks at the town hall. Em
