Well this Morning has been quite eventful. We had rain last night, then the temperatures dropped and it snowed and was extremely windy all night and this morning. It was one degree F with a real feel of -25.First we fed the horses, and two were shivering so we put heavier blankets on them and left them in. Then we went to do the chickens, and there was a bunch of snow I. The coop, and it was too windy out to let them out. Well I brought some water buckets and food bins and started setting up their dishes, when my sister yelled that the rooster fell in a water bucket, I don’t know how long he had been in, but it didn’t matter, I knew this was a serious problem. He’s already not as hardy as the girls since he’s a silky. I snatched him out of the water and started running across the field. I busted into the house and ran to the bathroom to blow dry him stat. He dried quickly and fluffed out, and I put him in a crate in the basement with food and water for a bit. I also brought two hens who were shivering into the garage for a bit. It’s just been non stop 😂🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀😵‍💫

I feel for ya! I'm learning a lot of lesson as our temps are a bit cooler than yours and it's my first year with my ladies. I'll be glad when winter is over. Yet it's just begun.
Oh yeah. This is our second year, but we’ve added many more birds and have a COMPLETELY different set up than before. We’ve done a lot of trial and error. Regardless winter just always isn’t fun 😕

Poor fellow!

I hope he's going to be OK.

Thank you! He had been perked up a bit, and had started crowing a lot in my basement! I gave him a whole egg yolk from a frozen egg that I collected this morning and he gobbled it up immediately. I’m hoping he continues to improve since I warmed him up within 2 minutes of falling in. I seriously scooped him out and RAN. I figured it could have been deadly right?

Absolutely, you did the right thing!

I just transitioned him to the garage, and swapped him and the picked on hen, into his crate. He did a wing drop and his little sideways jig and dance while clucking to his hen. So he clearly looks like he’s doing better. The garage is about 40 degrees so much warmer than outside. I want to get him re acclimated to the coop soon but at gonna take it slow so we don’t shock him. They are in a small space now but it’s better than them freezing. Sone snow came through the coop vents so we are going to have make some changes.
