An eventful morning

Oh how I wish Alexa could feed the chickens. 😂 Well I got the birds settled in for the night, those inside and out. I had hoped the garage would be a bit warmer tonight for the birds out there, but it’ll have to do. Plus, the roooster has one of his hens to snuggle up to tonight. He seems very happy to have her with him.

A few years ago we had a Generac whole house generator installed, love it! Much less expensive than they used to be, and so much easier than the portable units. We aren't up to refilling that old portable at 2am any more...
It's insurance, haven't actually needed it, and we aren't complaining about that either.
Now I guess they come solar too.
Our coop needs a bit of modifying tomorrow too.

Your Silkie won't do 5F, wet or dry.

That’s awesome! Yeah we might need to look into one of those… also the power came back on! So greatful we didn’t have to deal with not having power more than 4 hours! And ah alright, good to know. He’s my first silkie, I fell in love with him when I first saw a picture of him on here. He needed a home stat, so I decided to get him, not really knowing what I was getting into fully. I’ve read about silkies and such and knew they weren’t as hardy, but even just seeing his plumage, it’s clear he’s not quite as hardy as I thought. That’s alright though! I love him very much and am willing to do what has to be done to meet his needs!

Aww! You saved him! 🥰
Thank you for sharing that story.

It's only going down to 20 here (Hey, I'm a Floridian so that feels like 200 below) and we're trying to brood chicks on the porch. I'm chilled from going out there to check on them and wrap / unwrap the brooder obsessively. Plus, I forgot to bring all of the plants in.

I'm rewatching The Day After Tomorrow, as I felt like that's the only movie that gets me right now. But I had to pause it before the wolf scene so I could go out there without that in my head. I think I've defrosted enough to push play again.

It's so nice to know that other real people out there are suffering oops, uhh, I mean surviving with us, and with the same flavor of challenges (chickens). Don't lick the chickens! (brain has ice cubes in it)
Stay warm!
