Hi Everyone,

I have been reading this site for months now preparing for my new hobby farm and now for the grand unveiling!

My wife and I and our 2 year old just moved from the city and bought a Victorian Farm house on a lovely acre of land.

Since moving in November 2012 we have been steadily growing in size and variety!

I started with the goal of trying to construct as much as possible out of recycled/reclaimed material. I put an add up on the Internet and had a great response!

I am proud to say that I achieved a reused material rate of approximately 95%. (I had to buy a bit of chicken wire and hardware).

I set out after building my first coop and went to our local small animal auction (you can get just about anything there!)

We got 1 game rooster and 2 game hens and I accidentally bought 6 Rhode Island reds instead of the 3 I thought I heard. I have since expanded to 3 mallard ducks, 1 doe rabbit and we have 15 more Plymouth Rock x chicks coming in a week.

Ultimately, we would like to have a bit more but that is a good start. We have so much to learn but are just excited that we finally took the jump to doing it. Our new garden is going to be starting soon (we started growing giant pumpkins in the city and have tons more space now!)

A few pictures to have a look at!

We are planning on a more permanent coop once the weather turns nicer. Much larger inside!

Thanks again for everyone's great posts, keep it up!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

I would recommend wrapping your run with hardware cloth over the chicken wire to make it more secure.

chicken wire will keep them in but, won't keep predators out.
