Ancient origins and wilding your birds

My little flock essentially lives like that, and I recommend it wholeheartedly. Don't underestimate the difficulty of finding the eggs though!

Might be trying this even with the eagles, ravens, and ospreys around our little island.

I do this too, but the hens prefer to wild themselves up against the house, inside the house, or above the roosts in boxes.

I have a group of 3 hens right now wilding sitting on top or next to each other. They lay on their eggs and the other hens continually lay eggs on the same pile. A dozen eggs can turn into twenty eggs. If you dont remove the eggs, they can go bad very easily since they all were laid different times.

My last wilding batch hatched lkke 10% of the eggs, because my conditions arent as good as his are in the article. Mine are wilding in artificial boxes only because i dont have the energy to build more boxes now and the flock is so large.
