What can anyone tell me about Ancona chickens? I really want some hens for my layers because they lay white eggs and look awesome, too, but they'll be in a coop with a run. Everything I've read says they aren't too big on confinement.... So who can tell me what they know about Anconas?

I got a little Ancona chick 10 weeks old now... it is the most, curious, most flighty thing but totally ADORABLE... and so glad I have it. Watching it free range on the lawn just makes me laugh!

I'm hoping it's a good layer.

I have a couple. Love to roam, very flighty, not friendly.
They are funny with their mottling and floppy combs.
They lay very well, but I don't know about confinement for them.

I had a couple of Anconas -- very nervous chickens.

I now have exchequer leghorns, and I think I like them better. Although leghorns have a bad rep so far as temperament goes, mine aren't bad. I've got white bantam leghorns, a buff bantam leghorn, mille fleur standard leghorns, and exchequer standard leghorns. I like em all.
