My little button is about 5 weeks old give or take now and I was wondering if any one knew what color / pattern she is and if she is a she or if she is a he. I have always thought of her as a she. Thank so much.
They are buddies
she likes to hide her face in my hands
Peeking
such little bitty toes so cute

She is still pretty young to go with color, although she looks like a regular blue breasted female. If this bird has any red feathers on her butt she is a he! You will know better by 6-8 weeks on the color. The feathers on her chest and face are still "baby" feathers. do you have just the one?

Bitty betty as she came to be called is about 10 weeks old now , has never laid an egg or crowed so Im still needing help figureing out what she is please,
Sorry about the glare she dosnt like to be held anymore and is quite squirmy and flighty she has blue/gray chest , and lots of brown/rust on her underside .
Bitty betty and her new friend dont know what sex or color her friend is ether but she is still very small only about 4 weeks maybe
BItty betty sits on the baby lol its to funny cuase the baby is so big. I take this to mean betty is a girl but why hasnt she laid an egg yet if she is a girl ?

nice bib and bet the vent is reddish feathers too! You have a very nice blue breasted male! Betty will need to be Bob! lol really it is a male.Be careful that he is okay with the young one so are and some are not. He should call if he gets lonely.
Good luck.

When Button quail males crow, it sounds like a strong wind blowing. Some people describe it as a Darth Vader sound or a growl. To me it mostly sounds like wind. You will hear the wind and see his throat moving.

So far they get along good , the little one cries a little then bitty bob goes and sits on him for awhile ect, I think its funny that a male is playing nurse maid to a baby button

I hope the little one is a girl I have had the worst luck with hatching buttons first try that got me bitty bob I set more then 40 eggs and only got one baby and second try that got me baby button I think it was more then a dozen eggs and only got one .

where are you getting your eggs? that is a really bad hatch rate. it should be more like 20 of 25 hatch. are you sure you have your heat and humidity right? Let us know if we can be of further help. I love my little buttons but will not hatch more until spring when it will be easier to place them in good homes. :)

Both batches from byc' ers , the first batch everything behaved pretty well but only a few eggs even started. The second batch I'm pretty sure it was my incubatorthe heat crapped out sometime after lock down I had to send it back for the second time due to issues with heating control circutry. And I hear good stuff about brinsea but mine keeps mucking up.

have you thought about returning that one for a different one? If it is still "new" they should exchange it. I have a cheap unit that worked just fine, although I do not plan to be hatching a lot of these. i am happy with my 2 and i did raise 7 others that I finally sold to one guy for $35 but it cost me a lot more than that to raise them...ah well it was a great experience and I have all winter to decide if I will do it again....maybe? They continue to mate now and she has laid an egg everyday this week...silly birds! Good luck with yours.
