My australorps are almost 15 weeks. One sang the "egg song" at 14 weeks and has done nothing since that time in terms of vocalization. My question for seasoned australorp owners is this: When do they develop their combs and wattles? Mine have nothing, although they have red on their "faces"....their combs are EXTREMELY small--like nonexistent small. My last batch of a variety of breeds of chickens had combs and wattles much earlier! Just curious...I'm really not expecting any eggs any time soon and certainly NOT before they develop their combs and wattles. Thanks for your help on this!

It took mine about 1 year to get some decent sized combs and wattles. I've had them for two years now and they still have some pretty small ones.

Too funny! I was supposed to have all Australorps but I clearly have a jersey giant in the mix...called the gal I got them from and asked her if she had Jersey Giants and she said "I stopped raising Jersey Giants"...obviously NOT! Jersey is clearly a JG!

Mine started laying between 18-20 weeks. It seems like their combs pretty much popped overnight, they all went from zero to full, red comb & wattles in a very short time. Here she is at 20 weeks, and 18 weeks.

That is quite encouraging and exactly what I was looking for--Thank You!
