If he has lacing, he's a very dark blue. Blacks don't have lacing.

There's still another way- breed this cockerel to black hens and see if any blues show up.

Normally breeding with a blue or splash would work however if this line is prone to blues with "splashing" it could get confusing to ID whether a bird was a splashy blue or a "true" splash. So black(or any non-blue hens) hens would basically be the best foolproof way of figuring out his genetics.
