"God's Country" the real "UpNorth" in WI
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

My 1st chickens ever (just this week) having raised ducks, geese, and guineas in the past

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

total=24, 22 pullets, 1 roo, 1 "old hen" I had to take as part of a deal

(3) What breeds do you have?

this gets interesting, I got my first 7 from a local "heritage breeder" 1 Copper Black Marans rooster, 1 Blue Red Laced Wyandotte, 1 Wheaton Americana, 1 Maroon Speckeled Sussex, 3 Black Langshan's
then I added 10 "Special Black" pullets and that "old hen" who is a 4 year old Buff Orpington
last but not least 6 hybrid crossed Black Astrolorp pullets dad was a RIR

all are between 3 and 5 months old at this date

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Google, then directed here by a few of the folks I've talked to over the last few months

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

hmmm,,,,this isn't a hobby for me I added fresh eggs to my now year round market gardening that I do for a living here in the great northwoods. I consider myself lucky in that I have a "job" that lets me enjoy doing things I have learned over a lifetime

I've spent countless hours on this site over the last few months reading, learning, sorting info,,,,I'm a big fan of internet research and feel that knowledge is the key to any successful endeavor. Thanks to all who post and share thier knowledge/experiences. and to the folks that keep this site up and running.

Welcome from California! I loved this
1 "old hen" I had to take as part of a deal

. My hens are 2 1/2 years old and I will keep them until they die a natural death. But I do know that people don't want "old hens". That is a clever way of getting rid of them. Best of luck and
