I am living on 5 acres in the north central part of Florida with my daughter, son-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, 1 very small 12 year old dog, and a rambunctious pit bull pup. I was recently given 3 guineas by an elderly gentleman who has raised them in a hutch type cage since their hatching last spring. Thanks to BYC I was able to learn how to get the guineas to "learn" their new home. Chicken math set in rather quickly and I became the proud owner of 2 silkies. I am now hoping to add a few (or more) laying hens.
My guineas have been a big learning experience and while noisy they have so much character and are a lot of fun to watch. My silkies are very docile and quiet compared to the guineas. I already purchased a 5x20 chain link dog run with expandable ends so I can make it even wider. I will be starting on the coop this weekend which will start off being an 8x4, placed at the end of the dog run, with one of the dog run door panels added to that, which will turn the run into 14x20. I figured that out using my chicken math. The wider I can make the run, the more chickens I can get! Yeah!!!!
