I have 3 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Ameraucanas (not sure if they are true Ameraucanas). One of the Buffs is definitely a rooster (he is crowing) and he needs to find a new home (or dinner table). I'm having a harder time determining the sex of the Ameraucanas. They are different colors and one has really long tail feathers and the other has almost no tail feathers. All 5 of the chickens are about 16 weeks old. What do you guys think? (I only need to know about the brown and white one.)

I sure hope you guys are right. I don't want to have to get rid of another chicken.

P.S. Now that I think about, when I bought them I think they were labeled as "Americanas (Easter Eggers)". Tricky.

I think this is a pullet.

You should always be open to selling your birds, when you keep chickens, they should pay for themselves and sustain themselves. If you ended up keeping a bunch of roosters, not only will they tear up your hens' feathers and the other roosters but they aren't food to job effective. When you are alright selling your birds when you're tired of them or there's a mean bird, you can own a lot of chickens with pleasure without costing your flock or yourself too much. :/

I have no problem selling or getting rid of my roosters. My city doesn't allow roosters. Animal Control has already been to my house because of a neighbor complaint about my Buff crowing. I am just hoping to positively sex the others before they start crowing so I don't have to deal with Animal Control again.

Here's an update:

I found a good home for my Buff rooster and mornings have been quiet ... until today. I awoke at sunrise to a chicken sound that wasn't quite a crow. It was a few soft clucks followed by a loud cluck (cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck, cluck, CLUCK!) repeating over and over. I'm worried I may have another rooster as this happened right at sunrise. If you look at my original post and look at the brown Easter Egger, does it seem it may be a rooster? It is the one I am most suspicious of because it is the most independent and it has a few long tail feathers that stick out. The guy that picked up my Buff rooster said he was certain the rest were pullets (he's been raising chickens for 30+ years), but I want a second opinion. Thanks!

This is the one I'm worried about:

That clucking is called the egg song. They often do it when they have laid an egg or about to lay. It can be a bit loud! Sometimes they do it in the morning because they are telling the rest of the flock to get up and start the day!

I still think they all look like pullets :) Like tricoglossus said, was probably because she laid an egg or was excited about something
