I found another Guinea nest deep in the woods the other day. Today, the hen went broody so I waited until dark to go and get her. It was very dark and i did not want to scare her; I had marked my paces so I would be able to tell where I was in the woods without using the flashlight. Imagine my surprise when I reached down, switched on the light and there was about a 6 foot gray rat snake in the nest eating eggs & NO GUINEA! How far would she scatter in the woods? How do I find her in pitch dark? Would she had flown up in the trees (they are dense out there)

Another nest closer to home & I thought safer, 2 Guinea hebs had taken up on the nest- something got in the nest and ate about a dozen scattering shells == the Guineas were still there. My dog can't cross to this nest but can get close enough to scare off most critters

And I have a third nest in a great place, right up next to the house under my bedroom window so I am leaving that one.

The missing Guinea eventually showed back up the next day sitting on her nest (she made it through the night out there). I caught her, removed her eggs and destroyed her nest. I caged her for the night. Hopefully that will do it. It was a dangerous place for her to be for 28 days.

Good, glad you got your Hen before something else did! If you have a coop/pen for your Guineas you can start leaving them locked up until the Hens lay their eggs inside, then let everybody out. You'll still have the egg eating snake issue to deal with tho, unless your coop is snake proof.
