Another hardware cloth thread...will WD40 prolong life on ground?

I don't like to post lazy questions, so I did do some research on this and couldn't find any answers. Anyone think spraying the perimeter cloth on the ground will prolong its life?

Not sure. But if you have galvanized HWC should last a while.

However, I’d be hesitant to spray something like that that close to the chickens if it’s the anti-dig apron you’re referring to.

It is galvanized - and I, too, wondered about the proximity to the chickens, but they wouldn't come into contact with it (yes, the anti-dig).

My galvanize wire is holding up just fine in the dirt.

WD-40 is really just a compound to drive moisture away from metal to keep it from rusting. Being on the ground, there is no way to keep moisture away from it. All you would be doing is wasting WD-40 and your money.

I removed a garden fence that I built many, many yrs ago for a client this spring. The HC apron was in great condition. The fence wasn't, lol

My limited (few years) experience with aprons is they take more wear and tear from foot traffic, weed eating, and mowers than from water.

My HWC apron has been down for 3+ years, it doesn't look any different from the day I put it down. I have wood chips covering it, sometimes the chickens scratch around the outside when I let them out, so I get to keep an eye on it.
