Hi all I just joined this site and have already learned a few things. I bought a variety of chickens (couldn't decide on one breed) and am having a ton of fun watching them grow, talk about cheap entertainment.... I do have a question though. Since I've just started raising chicks, my husband and I decided to get a few older chickens because we want fresh eggs to eat now (we're a bit impatient I guess) without having to pay a lot for them. I picked up 10 four and a half month old white leghorns and a year old white laced Wyandotte. My Wyandotte, named Lacey by the lady I purchased her from has laid one egg shortly after arriving here. It's been almost a week since I got the first egg from her and I am getting concerned that she has not laid any more. She picks on my other chicks and I keep her separated so she is not 100% free range as the others are. This also allows me to feed her laying crumbles since the others don't eat that yet and keeps her from going out on my property just anywhere to lay her eggs. While I love a good egg hunt, I don't want to have to do that on a daily basis. Does anyone know if she needs time to adjust and how long?

Your hen needs some time. Sounds par for the course. When you move them to another location they tend to slow down or stop the egg shoot for a few days or sometimes even a few weeks. Hopefully she'll adjust within a week or so.

Your white leghorns are at point of lay more than likely so you should be getting some eggs from them soon.
