Hi everyone. After a long winter of lurking here at BYC I've finally joined.
I just got the permit to build my coop yesterday, and will be gathering materials for a 4/14 construction start date. I've never had chickens before, but I've decided to build a good sized shed since I also need summer housing for my pot-belied pig. (separate room of course) She's been living in my mud room for the last year, but that is now becoming my "garden room" and I've already tripped over her way too many times to continue sharing.
So far I've found lots of great information here, and I hope to keep learning more in the future.
This year I plan to start with only layers, but since I'm not 100% sure on when construction will be complete I haven't thought about breeds since the late start may lead to a not-so-great selection.
