Hello Everyone
Firstly i'd like to thank everyone for this website , since my husband and I decided we were going to be chicken keepers this website has been amazing !!
Secondly i'd like to introduce myself , my names Katie and my partner and I decided on embarking on a new project after discovering we'd gone through loosing our baby. We both needed something to occupy us with. We got chatting to some of our friends , who's parents were due to rescue some ex batt hens , and that they'd recently converted there shed. Bingo this was it, this was our project !
So my husband (mike) myself and our lovely bullmastiff dog Bob are embarking on rescuing some lovely ex batt hens.
Luckily we have a HUGE garden , and decided we'd do the same in converting our shed etc, but by the time we'd research into cost etc and oing some googling we discovered that buying a coop was much cheaper , and we bought one for £100.
When we collected it we decided that we'd want these babies to have a HUGE run , aswell as eventually being let into the garden space too. So mike and his good friend went off to invest in some treated timber post, some spikes , mesh for the enclosure , some batons to make things steardy and to make our gate and also some bamboo screening to make it look pretty at the back and to keep out the nosey neighbour lol
So i thought i'd show you our progress so far into our enclosure - obviosuly we still need to but the house up - the mesh is yet to go on , the gate is to be made and were also going to re-flag where the patch of grass is - and control the mud area with a roof so that it can stay dry.
Were then going to decorate it on the outside , put some lighting in as well as lots of perches etc.
We've ordered 10kg galvanised drink holder , and a 9kg feeder both with the umberella roofing , and we've embarked on a local farmer for the bales of hay , and layers mash/ pellets too.
Excitingly too ,we discoverd on here about a rescue due in Manchester of the 23rd June with fresh start for hens , so we quickly donated and put ourselves on the list so fingers crossed we'll have 6 lovely ladies.
Ok now to some pics ( hope they work )
Here's the coop that we have bought

This is hubby getting rid of the weed etc

This is a clearer image of the space

Here's the post's up and ready to be meshed

This is the bamboo screening , and bob getting a look in too

Obs it's a work in progress , and due to the rubbish weather all last week ,we couldnt do much - but the lads worked hard doing that in just the one day. We've got 2 weeks to get everything ready - so each night after work were going to do a bit ready for the ladies
So excited
Thanks
