Hello there and welcome to BYC!

LOL...escaping is what they enjoy doing! It is best to lock them in their coop for a couple of days after bringing them home so that they learn where home is! If you just turn them out, they have no idea where to go and sometimes you end up fishing them out of the trees at night. LOL However a few nights and days spent in the coop teaches them where home is and to come home to roost there at night.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chickens :celebrate How exciting for you to be starting out on your new chicken adventures. What breed/s do you have? Escaping can be a mission for some chickens and I have had a few that were determined not to stay in their run. All this changed when I got a covered walk in run so no one could escape then. TwoCrows has left you some great advice on getting them in.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future and enjoy BYC :frow

Welcome to BYC!

Congratulations on getting your flock, what breeds did you get?

If you haven't already, you may want to check out the Learning Center...there are a lot of very informative articles there covering just about all aspects of keeping chickens. This link will get you there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Good luck to you with your new birds!

Thanks everyone We have Four hybrids not sure exactly what though. We now have names hetty, Betty, dotty and goldie. They seem to have got the hang of the coup now. Will see how they cope with the rain tomorrow :-) kids are getting a bit impatient waiting for eggs........all the other chickens they know are layers..........I know they will come when they are ready.
