Ok I had to can the vinyl lattice idea due to cost. I saw in an "unhandy" thread that someone built w/o wood, w/o raised nestboxes (they used a dog house), and I think no elevated roosts. They used wire all around including the top.
My question is: with no predators (our pets stay away from all the chicks) and fairly warm weather during the summer, would this be a good set-up for our layers? Would they lay?
