I am assuming that when we get another puppy in December that she will have to have her own crate correct?
I believe it would be best, but I'm just trying to figure out where we are going to fit another giant sized crate in this small house. We plan to move Jax's crate to our bedroom soon, so the new one can go in the living room. I'm just not looking forward to having a dog crate in the living room forever.

They usually do like their own crates

Does Jack sleep in his crate at night? If not, you can use his crate to train the new pup, then they can share later. If you are not closing them in the crate, they can use one crate. Mine are not usually in the crate a the same time, but they do sleep in them, so need their own.

We do lock "Jax" in his crate at night, but that's about the only time we do close it, unless we are going out somewhere that he can't come. I know they say a dog is not housebroken until about 8 months, but he hasn't had an accident in weeks and comes and tells us when he needs to go out.
He knows how to open the crate from the outside, but hasn't figured out how to open it from the inside, thankfully.
So another crate it is. Maybe that will encourage my DH to get rid of some of the excessive furniture in the living room.

It's tough being a minimalist married to a hoarder.

I stack crates for my big dogs. I start teaching puppies very young how to let me help them out of an "upstairs" crate.

You need a piece of plywood that is slightly larger than the outer dimensions of the crate. Put this on top of the crate you are going to stack on. It helps distribute the weight of the other crate evenly on top of the one on the bottom.

Make sure the crate on the bottom is strong enough to stack. Generally the manufacturer will state whether the crate is stackable or not.

Then I bungee the crates together very tightly top to bottom.

My hubby made a table from scrap stone and rebar so I could put the aquarium on top and slide the crates underneath. It worked out very well and the crates are a permanent part of our living room 'decor' now. They are by our large front window so anybody who comes to the front of the house gets a dose of scary barking.

Each of our dogs has its own crate except the bed dog. The most senior dog gets to be bed dog and then their crate is the bedroom and they get to sleep with us. Everybody else has to sleep in their own crate.

Your mentioning the window thing reminded me. Our kitchen is directly opposite the living room. I'm in the kitchen cooking last night and Jax suddenly lunged at the window. He was barking and carrying on like he was ready to eat someone. Kinda spooked me because I'm home alone at nights. I almost didn't want to look out the window, sure that a "booger" was standing on my porch.

He was seeing my reflection at the stove in the glass. Silly pup!
