my wife thinks i have a poultry problem. yesterday i got 2 african geese. they are with my 5 week old chickens because they're the same size. can someone tell me not about the breed of geese i got but about just the geese in general. i heard they can be mean but im going to train them.

Geese are big time bluffers. My gander has only bit once and that was when I took his mate's dead body from him. Other than that he bluffs a lot. Geese are grazers and need a lot of green grass to eat. Once they are past the brooding stage they are pretty tough. This does not mean they are always safe from predators. Owls, eagles, fox, coyotes and racoons, bobcats, bears can all kill an adult goose. I listed a lot of predators that I don't have. There are still others like dogs.

Geese are my favorite fowl. Chickens are great. Ducks are comically cute and a joy to watch splashing in the water. Geese have the most personality. My gander reminds me so much of a 3 year old child the way he gets into everything as soon as your back is turned. When your back is turned he becomes brave and thinks he can try to be really nasty and starts to charge. As soon as you turn around he stands back up and walks away like he was innocent.

Have fun with your geese!
