I found a soft shelled light brown egg in the run this morning that would have been laid either by a RIR, Cornish cross (I know she should be in the freezer but every time we set a date to do it something came up so far), or possibly a BR, all 19 weeks old.
The Cx has been squatting for about 2 weeks and definitely looks mature enough to lay. But my husband saw the RIR laying around, squatting, and squat walking yesterday and texted me at work because he thought something was wrong with her. A bit later she was back to her usual self. We also had everyone free ranging yesterday so the BR could have gone in that run as well.
It was behind a stump the guineas use to get into their coop, so it could have been there yesterday, I didn't lock everyone up until after dark last night and wouldn't have seen it if it was there, or it could be from this morning
Attached are photos of all three possibles. The RIR and BR just seem too immature to me, but this is my first year with chickens in about 25 years, so I'm no authority!
