I have a metal shed that is my coop. I am putting up radiant barrier stuff, its a silver roll and works great instead of insulation on the ceiling and 3 walls. How do you let them out in their run or to free range and them to be still able to get into the coop w/o air flowing inside? Do you think I need a heat lamp of some sort? I have 24 birds, and 1 is a turkin. I live is SW PA, who knows what winters hold for us. Last year we had about a 2 week cold spell and other than that it ranges around 34. I have a cement floor and have it covered with straw, which in the winter I will put it on thicker.
Thanks for all the help. I know there is a lot of questions on winterizing but wasnt sure on a metal/tin coop.

We use the same stuff your describing and arc it above our roost to help trap the heat next to them at night.
we also cover their door way with a burlap sack to cut the breeze down.
if it gets really cold, nothing beats a good heat lamp, ours is set on a timer to turn on at the coldest part of the night.
good luck
