My chick with the leg poking up in the air is doing ok, the one in my other thread. I made it a boot to hold the leg down and it's walking around and eating happily like the others.

I noticed last night a second chick isn't standing at all. It's floppy, like a little puddle of fluff. It's legs don't support it at all! It just lays there, legs straight out and wings straight out. When it's awake it holds its head up and looks around, pecks, etc., but it just doesn't move. It tries, but it can't stand. When it hatched I noticed it had abnormally long legs and large feet. I think that's the problem. What should I do? I've been trying to make sure it's not getting trampled, giving it some sugar water and setting it at the food to peck...

I have a chick with leg problems, he is only two days old! Tried the bandaid thing and he got so upset I had to take it off. I am going to wait a little while and see how he does, I just got the chicks this morning so maybe he just needs to get settled. I sure hope so, he surely didn't like that bandaid thing!!! Good luck with your chick too!!

I put half of a bandaid on mine too but it still just sits there on the ground. It can hold its head up, and it's bright eyed, but it wants to sleep a lot and it doesn't seem to want to try to move unless it's being squished. Then it kind of rolls away...

Any updates on your littles with leg issues? I've been wondering how they're doing...!

I have a chick with splayed legs, I put a whole band aid on when it was only a day old and it was flopping all over. It was sad, so I took it off and waited another day and a half and cut the band aid in half and the chick has had it on for 2 days now and is doing great! I'm going to take it off this weekend and see how it's leg is doing. I hope it's all better. Good luck. I wouldn't wait to long to put something on it's leg, someone told me to do something about it within 2 days.

Hi,
My little one is at least let me put the bandaid on him. I was putting it up to high, once I lowered it he didn't get so upset having it on.
Seems like it has stretched out a little far so I am going to put a new one on today. I'm just happy he allowed it to be on at all. And wouldn't ya know the reason he got that upset is cuz it was on the wrong place. I sure hope he'll be alright!! He seems to sleep more than the others I think!! Hope the other chickie is doing better too!

Thanks

chickpeaz:
Question for you. How old are the chicks and the breed, what do you feed them and amount of protein in it and what are you feeding the breeders and protein amount..

I think this must have been directed at the OP...? I was only on here checking up on the baby's progress.
