Ants... Lots

I've got several mounds of ants that have popped up near my coop, and have noticed more than a few in and around the coop/run.

I've read Sevin works well. Should I use the dust or spray?
Apply it inside and outside of the coop, or just outside?

Some people think sevin is dangerous to animals, I have not used around chickens and do not know. I would guess that a permetherin spray would work.
