If your brooder is in an area that is dry you can flour the ground/floor around the brooder box with diatomaceous earth. I use it to keep bugs out of my feed cans and the like. So long as it stays dry and powdery it will kill any ants that crawl through it.

I have an ant pile in a turkey pen that i'm about to put turkeys in, should i be concerned. I think they are red ants and the pile is pretty big. Sorry to sorta steal the thread, but i'm getting turkeys tomarrow and this is really close to what i was going to ask.
