I am not in East Hampton or Amagansett, I just wanted to say my mom was born and raised in Amagansett before it was high rent. My grandmother had a garden and raised chickens. She also cleaned houses for the rich and took in a border. They used the eggs and sold what was left over. I asked my mom and she regales me with tales from Long Island. So...they had chickens, a garden not only for fruits and veges, but my grandmother made salves and ointments. They shucked oysters and clams (my grandfather was a fisherman) had fresh fish, and a cranberry bog across the street. Way to live!!!
