Any helpful tips to gain a rooster's affection and trust?

I have the sweetest rooster in the world, but he just doesn't like me being near him and sometimes holding him. The thing is, my mom can be right next to him and hold him till the world ends and he just stays as calm as can be. He loves my mom, but he does't like me anywhere near him. Any tips or tricks that could possibly help?

My relationships with roosters work best when we give each other space. I don't try to hold or mess with him, and he gives me a respectful space. That's how I like it and I've not had problems with mean roosters as a rule. Personally, I don't think they're wired to be pets and should be treated like intact male livestock.....rams, bulls, buck goats. They're all a little unpredictable from the testosterone.
