I'm going with number 3 chick being the beautiful roo.

You could print out those pictures Bonniebooboo posted and create an illustration of how chicks change. Maybe the kids could draw guesses of how it will turn out.

Yes, that's exactly what I did. It seems to be helping them, ha! I'm actually sad his feathers will turn plain. I like the coloring he has.
