I had a chick that I helped out of the egg last evening after it struggling for 2 and 1/2 days to get out. the poor little thing is lively and chirping but can't get its self off its back. on both feet the toes are copmletely curled under. I was able to fix the one foot with a magic shoe with no problems at all so now the chick can at least be propped up against something so it is on its belly. The other foot is a different story.. the toes are tightly compressed closed and there is no way I can flatten them out to put a shoe on it. I was able to stretch them out but I think it may be a few days before they will lay straight.
I honestly don't know if this chick is going to make it.... as it breaths it kind of rattles...is that because it spent the night on its back or is that a sign of a respitory infection??? I am unsure of what to do.... any suggestions from my BYC friends.... I have two healthy babies in the brooder that I think I am going to slip inder the broody I have out in the coop, so he is isolated in the incubator for now.
