Any Iowans here?

Timely post, I was just about to inquire myself. I live in Marshall County, work in Ames. I'm new to chickens. How do you do your water for the chickens in the winter?

Go further down in the forum there is a whole list of iowans.
My chickens only get supplement heat when it gets near zero esp if we are going to have along streak of cold, they do fine. I am up in "chucktown"

I was just looking yesterday on the internet for a heated water bowl. I found one on www. jefferspet.com for 19.99 plus 6.95 shipping. I need to get two of them beings I can't quit hatching eggs. lol. We live near Osceola Ia in the country. First time since I was little having chickens. My 10.5 yr old son just loves them. What kind of chickens do you all have. I need some new blood for my buff orpingtons. A roo. The ostralorps come from mcmurray so they should'nt be related to each other.I'm building a pen for the orpingtons right now. Plus I have 13 eggs in the bator and they are going to be silkie and showgirl mix. Can't wait to see them:)

"Chucktown" would be Charles City?? I don't really know where it is though. LOL! I am geographically challenged, for sure!

I have 26 Gold Stars which will be cut in half, hopefully this week as my chicken guru friend is taking 1/2 of them.

I am so amazed at how funny these peeps are. The come when you call them. I talk to them all the time. My daughter and I played with them and handled them since the very beginning.

I have to say, its pretty fun having chickens, even though I'm pretty darn clueless about it. I rely on my chicken friends alot and also this board. The pics everyone posts are GREAT!!
