I can assure you I won't be buying more for them in the future! It's just because we already had these cans of salmon on hand. Also, I have stopped buying yogurt (their favorite treat), because it's expensive and now that they are full grown they can really gobble it up.

As far as chickens encountering fish in the wild-I suppose they could. The original chickens were some kind of jungle fowl-I think. So there would have been rivers or streams around them. I don't know-I'm just thinking it's possible.

In the begining I thought it was so cute to watch them eat the yogurt I put down. They would nip at it run through it but it was gone by the end of the day. Now the are much larger than when I first got my girls and they devour it in a matter of minutes. It is good for them but I consider it a treat. If I give them to many treats they do not eat what I throw down for them and the regular feed. If you can believe it they are smart enough to "HOLD OUT" for just the treats!! Spoiled , you think!!

I fish salmon all summer, I feed my chickens left over canned salmon, the skin from smoked salmon, and left overs from baked salmon..they love it...... never had a fishy egg but i guess that's because there isn't to much left when i'm done picking at it...

Awesome stuff, they love it too. It's the highest vegetable source of omega 3's. I've heard of it making eggs taste funny, but I've also heard that about fish meal. My girls get a large handful of flaxseeds every day (four bantams) and the eggs don't taste weird at all to me.

I've heard that dried fish from the Asian grocery is very cheap. I haven't checked yet but next time I'm there I'm going to check on it. Our Mexican grocery sometimes has smelt on sale for 99 cents a pound. Smelt has about the same amount of omega three as salmon and less toxins.

Wow. This sounds like a great reason for me to fish our ponds. I am not really good at sitting still for long, but perhaps I can do this (knowing I don't actually have to kill / eat the fish myself.) I love fish - but the killing takes the joy out of the eating experience for me.

Mine like sardines. I get the $.89/can ones packed in water from Aldi's. I use them to lure them back into the run when I'm leaving town or whatever.
