I hope to incorporate the chickens into lesson plans:
Science, and maybe business: when the hens are old enough to lay, the kids can do some simply calculations such as cost of raising chickens vs. buying eggs, etc.
history of domesticating birds, etc.
Does anyone else do this?

we do! my daughter is 7.5, my little guy is almost 2,and they learn a LOT from the chickens. (although i kinda wished my daughter hadn't learned that "so, you don't have to be married to have babies--or else you can be married to a LOT of ladies...which is it mama?"

Have been doing it for 2 years. It helps with Math, Science, Buisness, and Ethics. Also pretty useful in Home Economics

There are many different angles you can teach from by raising a few chickens.

We homeschool here as well and I've added a lot of chicken chores to our curriculum. Chickens can teach all sorts of things if you open your mind up!

Here's a link to a great Magic School Bus video on how a chicken develops from an egg. My daughter (5) loves it!
