Any reason not to eat chicken?

We discovered this morning that one of our roosters' feet were completely frozen. The rest of our 30+ birds are totally fine, so I can only assume something was already wrong with him. After thawing his feet out and assessing the damage, it was clear he wasn't going to make it. In addition to the frostbite, he pooped bright neon green while inside. Obviously he was ill. We culled him this evening. My question- since we don't technically know what "killed" him - is it safe to eat him? Is there any disease or sickness he could've had that would go into the meat? Sorry if it's a stupid question- we only recently started eating our culled birds, so I'm probably over paranoid.

my dad took us hunting and would eat the wild rabbit if and only if the liver looked healthy, any sign of illness he would let the ants have it.

If I don't know why a bird died, I won't eat it. I will use it for fertilizer, bury the carcass in the garden or near a shrub, tree, etc.
