Not quite ready to buy yet, but am looking for someone in the near future to buy some silkies from. They don't need to be SQ they're just going to be pet hens that may help me raise orphaned wild birds.

Thanks in advance~Lee

How do you plan to have silkies help you raise orphaned wild birds? I wouldn't suggest putting them together as the wild bird can be carrying diseases and parasites. Plus, the silkie could hurt the bird.

Good luck in your search

well here in Ks we have a wild bird species the kildeer that we get a lot of people bringing us eggs or hatch lings because they don't see the mother. If we can we find the same mother or another mother to take the baby back but, sometimes we can't find a mother willing to take in the orphan so we have to had raise them If we had a segregate mother to sit on the babies to keep them warm it would be a lot easier on us and the babies.

If the Silkie already had babies with her do you think she would still be rough on new chicks introduced? Curious. I personally think she's take them under her. But I have no idea, really. I have just added day olds to cochin and it seemed to go okay?

I admire what you are doing for the kildeer!

If we had a silkie hen she would go broody then we would put the baby kildeer under her at night, the silkie would have no babies of her own as we can't keep roosters our neighbors on one side complain too much.

I raise Silkies... I have won 2 overall grand champion trophies with them... However I have less showy silkies for you. I charge $40 for a full grown silkie.
