I'm new to this site and raising chickens on my own - my mom is a long time chicken raiser. I was wondering if anyone in Pleasanton has had any luck with a backyard flock? Meeting the Ordinance requirements, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome! I'm over the hill in Oakland. Can't help with Pleasoanton ordinances (check on the website - google city of Pleasanton, and look for anything animal control or animal related. It will give you the details)

In Oakland the only limitations are no roosters and the coop can't be closer than 20' to any building, school, home. And yes, I have taken advantage of the no limit to number of chickens

Welcome to BYC and hopefully the wonderful world of chickens (see the following info!). I live in Pleasanton and have been keeping chickens for about 18 months now. As regards the rules and regulations, it seems to all come down to exactly where you live in Pleasanton. When I first looked into getting my girls I called the city to enquire and they firstly asked which street I live on and then came back and asked for the house number as in our street only certain properties are allowed to keep chickens!! Give them a call, they were very helpful and I got the information I needed immediately. I hope it turns out you can go ahead with your plan - fingers crossed for you.

Once you know, and assuming it's good news I would be more than happy to help if you have any questions. :)

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! to Boogiedog, Rowell Fowl and Gryeyes! Based upon Gryeyes post of info and Rowell Fowl's suggestion of calling the City I got the info! I am supposed to bring in a proposed coop design and map of the proposed location in my yard into the Planning Department. It's an over the counter approval so no Public Hearing is required which is what a neighbor told me the "old" ordinance required. YEAH! I'm on my way! Thanks again!
