My brood of 7 chicks are coming up 14 weeks this Friday and I'm struggling to tell what sex they are.
I've been told that it's usually about 50/50 with the sex but I think there are more hens than roosters.
Behaviour wise I can't see any of them being particularly more aggressive or confident than the others.
Looking at the combs they don't seem to have a huge amount of difference in size. Should there be at this age?
I have just read some of the other comments about feather shape on the hackles so will have to go out and have a look.
The reason I need to look at sex now is the other half is not happy with them coming up on the deck, paths and drive as they make a mess and due to the layout of our property it is difficult to fence them off, but also getting into my veggie garden and eating everything, so we have compromised to limit the flock size. I don't want to stop them from being free range as love watching them out there doing what chickens do.
BUT...... I don't want to sell my hens and find I have roosters left!
