Hi All,

I am in need of a cheap temporary coop to house 10 hens (7 standard, 3 banty). They will have a run and only need this coop for the summer months. I would like to keep the coop as an extra broody area/hospital coop after they’re out of it.

It needs to assemble and disassemble easily and be transportable via mini van.

I don’t mind paying around $400 or so for it.
Anyone have ideas? Amazon links? Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

I would consider a hoop coop ... but the minivan could be a challenge. I was able to transport 16' cattle panels on a minivan cargo rack by first attaching 12' 2x4's to the rack and then attaching the panels to the 2x4's. (I would not travel at high speeds like that.) If your ground can hold steel t-posts to anchor the cattle panels (not too sandy, etc.), then it's super easy to put up and take down.

I’ve thought about this but have never done it. Are there draw backs?

For transportation, I would buy a few card board boxes from Lowes and drill 1 inch air holes around the box; and for the temp coop, I would pound six 4 ft metal fence pegs in the ground and wrap chicken wire around it; and for the roof, I would zip tie an emt 3/4 pipe or wood down the middle and across each side and zip tie a 8 x 8 heavy duty tarp over it. The middle of the roof should be higher than the sides, so water can run of.

You can also zip tie two perch across the two front metal pegs to the center metal peg forming a V, and hang a feeder and water jug in the middle of the V.

This sounds promising! Thank you!
