My chickens are free range and just yesterday my giant fluffy Orpington rooster was taken up in the air by a hawk luckily the hawk bit off more than it could chew and dropped the massive rooster back on the ground any ways to prevent hawks in a free range area?

There are lots of threads on this so you could try searching as well.

From what I've read though top two are roosters to sound alarms (hmm not working it seems lol) and giving lots of places to hide be that man made or natural. Nothing seems to work 100% though I don't think.

But like I said go do a search because there are lots of interesting threads on it.

! Pleased you joined us! it's one of the perils of free range. My dogs seem to deter hawks from diving - that seems to be about it for me. Good luck to you!

My friend has over 20 free range chickens and a hawks nest in a nearby tree. She put out a few crow decoys and swears she hasn't had a Hawk problem since. I'm going to get a few and try it out.

Try buying a dog kennel, the kind thats made for outside dogs. They usually come with a tarp. I live on the windy prairie, but it doesnt blow away. They are very easy to stake down and move. We use these for our lil ducks. Hope this helps!
