I never noticed before this year how many ants we have around our house. For the first time this year I used raised beds made from old tires. Apparently I dug up some ant hills and put them in the beds too. I couldn't even weed my carrots without finding a giant ants nest and having some try and crawl up my arm. Also, I lost some potatoes because they actually tunneled through the potato and caused it to rot. We have ant spray for our porch but I would like to safely be able to use these beds to grow food next year without having to worry about poison having been present. Are there any vegetable garden safe / organic ways to get rid of ants?

I boil ants away. Usually takes 3days worth of kettles, but it's organic and it works.

Fill kettle. Get water boiling. Take kettle out to yard. Wear waterproof wellies, high tops best - splash. Pour boiling water into the main entrance(s) of nest. Ants will likely pour out of nest (another reason for the high top wellies). Repeat. I typically do 3 pots of water a day. Soemtimes less if it seems like a small nest.

It's also just the year for ants. Some years, it's spiders; others it's wasps; others it's beetles.....so this is just their year for you!

They are everywhere this year. Been having issues keeping them out of the hive and garden. As much as it pains me, I may have to resort to chemicals as everything, and I mean EVERYTHING else has failed.
