I had 4 chicks hatch out last thursday. They are in with my other chicks, so I'm really worried... One had pasty butt tonight so I cleaned him off (felt bad because some of the fluff came off too...). When I put him back in, he pooped a little bit after I put him down, and it had definite blood in it

My chick is walking around and being a normal chick so far, so I'm hoping it's not too late. Can anybody offer me any advice on how to help my little one???

If you didn't thoroughly soften the crust, the irritation my have caused the blood. Watch him with the other chicks and offer the yogurt. Good chance he'll be ok.

Thank you so much! I put some ACV in the water, and will be getting them yougurt tomorrow. I sat out in the shed with them, and watched my little one closely. He took a poop, and it looked like a normal poop. I don't really understand why it's sticking to him if it's "normal" though...

When my chicks have had pasty butt, I wash them off gently under warm running water (just a thin stream of it) in the sink, and then dry them thoroughly.

I also add dry oatmeal (plain, quick oats, not flavored/sugared/old-fashioned) to their food for a few days. It really clears them up, and they love it! They'll gobble up the oatmeal before they'll touch their crumbles. I never measured how much, just threw a spoonful or two of it in for them.

Good luck! Hope your little one makes it and the pasty butt quits soon.
