Converting a playhouse that is wood framed but the roof and siding is metal. Since I live in the sunny south I know I will have to ventilate well because days can get up to 97 degrees in the late summer here. Has anyone built a metal siding coop and what suggestions/ or things did you do? How is the inside in the middle of the day?? The chickens will free range during the day but will be locked up at night.

Our hen house is half of a metal truck barn that we converted. We are in Texas, so it does get hot here. One side of the coop is chicken wire and the other three walls and the roof are metal. The floor is dirt covered with wood chips. We have cut a window in the wall opposite the chicken wire that is open in the warm months. I'm miserable when I have to work in there in August, but it doesn't seem to bother the girls at all. They lay well and have plenty of energy. I do make sure they have plenty of water available. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mamahen...kinda figured I'm gonna have to cut out several openings or bake the girls! Will have to post pics before/after. Wish me luck!!
