My daughter is getting a rabbit from her "boyfriend" (they're 11--so it's cute) and my husband and I have decided to NOT let her keep it in the house. I just expanded my chicken coop to a 7 x12 size. I was thinking about attaching a hutch to a portion of it, while allowing part of the hutch to sit inside the coop and part of it sitting outside. Point being because the coop is insulated, and we have really cold winters here...really cold.

Do you see any problem with this?? Also, if I use a heated water bowl, could I partition the hutch halfway over the water dish so that both the rabbit and the chickens can drink out of it??

Thanks!!

If it is partially inside and partially outside I think it would be perfect. Best of both worlds. I saw a chicken house on here that had built in rabbit hutches. It was nice. The rabbits inside living area was above the chicken/floor area.

It should be fine I have had my chickens and rabbits together for a long time in a fenced area. My first egg was actually laid in the chicken cage instead of the coop area

Rabbits have a tremendous tolerance for cold as long as they:

Don't get wet.
Are protected from the wind.
Have plenty to eat.

That being said, if you want to incorporate with the coop, it shouldn't be a problem, but you may want the rabbit urine and droppings to drain down a pan to the outside.
